Makai Sushi was started on Kauai, HI in 2014 by Chef Matthew Oliver and in Sept. 2023 Matthew opened Makai Sushi in Hillcrest, CA. Makai Sushi takes pride in using locally sourced seafood and fresh healthy ingredients to create their dishes. Being born and raised on Kauai, Chef Matthew brings an authentic Hawaiian approach to his dishes. Best known for the Gorilla Poke Bowl which includes a variety of fresh fish with the option of adding a scoop of real blue crab making it a Godzilla bowl.  Makai also serves a variety of sushi rolls, sushi burritos and creative Chef specials.
